A Florida judge has officially declared Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner divorced, finalizing their separation after a confidential agreement was reached between the two. The Miami-Dade County judge signed off on the agreement on Friday, marking the end of a year-long divorce process that began when Jonas filed for divorce in September 2023.
The 35-year-old Jonas Brothers singer and the 28-year-old “Game of Thrones” and “X-Men” actor had been married for five years before their split, which was initially poised to turn into a contentious legal battle over custody of their two daughters, 4-year-old Willa and 2-year-old Delphine.
However, court documents reveal that moderated negotiations successfully led to the resolution of key issues, including the division of assets, spousal support, and, most significantly, a comprehensive parenting plan. Judge Gina Beovides, who presided over the case, ruled that their marriage was “irretrievably broken” but expressed that the parenting plan was in their children’s best interests.
The couple, who met through Instagram direct messages in 2016, were married in a secret Las Vegas wedding in May 2019 after the Billboard Music Awards. Their wedding featured a live performance by country duo Dan + Shay.
Jonas, who cited the existence of a pre-nuptial agreement in his divorce filing, initially sought joint custody of the children. However, tensions rose shortly after this when Turner filed a lawsuit demanding that Jonas hand over the girls’ passports, allowing them to join her in England. According to Turner, they had intended to raise their children together in England before their marriage unravelled. She also claimed she first learned about Jonas’ divorce filing through the media, a point Jonas disputed, insisting that the two had discussed it on multiple occasions.
By January 2024, the couple had dropped the custody battle, signalling a shift towards finding a resolution. The final agreement, while confidential, has brought closure to what had once been a bitter and highly publicized dispute between the two.
Turner, originally from Northampton, England, is widely recognized for her portrayal of Sansa Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and her role as Jean Grey in the “X-Men” film series. Jonas, born in Arizona, rose to fame alongside his brothers Nick and Kevin with their band, Jonas Brothers, in 2005. The band, which has enjoyed a resurgence, released its sixth studio album last year and is currently on the European leg of their world tour.
While representatives for Jonas and Turner have not yet commented on the finalized divorce, the resolution of their legal matters marks the end of a highly public chapter in their lives.
